Venetian masks have a long history of protecting a wearer’s identity during decadent activities. Made for centuries in Venice, these distinctive masks were formed from paper-mache and wildly decorated with fur, fabric, gems, or feathers. Eventually, these beautiful masks re-emerged as the emblem of the Venetian Carnival (Carnivale) pageant and street fair. Appreciation for Venetian masks has spread to Halloween masquerade balls and Mardi Gras, but they always carry their rich Italian history.
New England’s most beautiful selection
At Creative Encounters, we have handpicked our selection of gorgeous Venetian Masks from two producers in Venice, and people from all over United States call us for them. We are the only retail store in New England to carry masks from La Bottega dei Mascareri; and we feature a beautiful selection of distinctive pieces from IRIDA gallery. Each mask is a handmade, one-of-a-kind, signed work of art.
